Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Helsinki is a protected building so the project was done in cooperation with Helsinki City Museum. Pentik carefully designed and manufactured the authentic looking tiles by utilizing model pieces in the design process.

When the Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna in Helsinki was renovated, the tiled surfaces were returned to the central space of the department store. These were removed originally during a renovation job in the 1990’s. The new tiles were designed to be compatible with the original tiles.
When creating the new tiles, two tile background profiles and four different shades of color were used to achieve the variation found in the originals. The weathering caused by the conditions was also mimicked.
