The Helsinki City Theater, completed in 1967, has an important role in the tradition of Finnish modernism. In connection with the renovation project, Pentik created new ceramic tiles to replace the damaged ones – a process that required thorough preliminary work.
In the manufacture of new tiles, the designer of the original tiles was consulted and numerous material, glazing and firing tests were carried out. A total of 27,751 tiles were produced.
Process
“They (Pentik) acquired the necessary equipment needed to manufacture the tiles and built their own separate line for creating facade tiles inside the factory.”
